A Work of Love
Christians refer to the period from Ash Wednesday to Easter as Lent or Easter penitential season. During these 40 days of fasting, many of us abstain from certain foods, stimulants or perhaps from consuming media such as television or the Internet. However, a simple abstinence without a spiritual dimension might be healthy for the body and mind, but in the context of faith it would certainly not be the goal of Christian fasting. The goal of fasting is to follow a path of repentance and conversion through abstinence and concentration on the essentials and accompanying prayer.
However, abstaining from consumption also has a social component. The savings made through abstinence should not be hoarded and thrown away. Christian fasting also includes acts of charity.
The “Arul Trust” support association is a work of charity through its work helping those in need in India. Wouldn’t your participation and donation also be a work of love for you?
